ACCEPT: 'Pandemic' Director Talks About Making Of Video
July 20, 2011"Pandemic", the new video from reformed heavy metal legends ACCEPT, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Dave Blass features a graphic novel style, accomplished with Red Giant's ToonIt software.
The initial idea for the "Pandemic" clip was rooted in the May 2010 incident when a Twitter bug was inadvertently exposed by a Turkish ACCEPT fan. When this young man tweeted "Accept pwnz," he found that the user @pwnz was suddenly following him. The fellow wrote a blog post about the accidental exploit and a ton of other users then started exploiting this bug and a few tech blogs got wind of it as well.
Speaking to RedGiantSoftware.com, Blass stated, "The idea for the 'Pandemic' video started with the idea of telling [the Twitter] story in a cool way. We had looked at Trapcode Form as something to use possibly for [ACCEPT's previous video] 'Teutonic Terror', but ultimately felt it made our '80s-style video look too modern. From there we looked at ToonIt as a possibility to make a graphic novel style telling of the story. Elements of the Twitter story were dropped as the world has a short memory for such things, but the concept of a watching a video as if you were reading a graphic novel was kept.
"We initially tried compositing all of the footage and then running it through ToonIt, but we found that the faster motion and switching dynamic of the flames caused havoc with the settings depending on the pattern of the flames. Too much detail on the flames, and you got too much detail on the faces, etc. Too little detail on the flames, and you lose the toon effect on the faces. We ended up running each element through the software individually and then compositing them together. Some of the sequences ended up being 4-5 passes."
"Pandemic" comes off ACCEPT's latest album, "Blood Of The Nations", which was released in North America on September 14, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. Recorded at Backstage Studio in Derbyshire, England with acclaimed British producer and SABBAT guitarist Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, MASTERPLAN),the CD marks the debut of the band's latest addition, vocalist Mark Tornillo (ex-TT QUICK).
